BIRMINGHAM | William H. Jones, age 64, of Birmingham, went to be with our Lord
the 17th of November 2006. He was born in Cullman, Ala. February 2, 1942 to the
parents of Sally and Cecil Jones. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama
as an Electrical Engineer. He retired from Alabama Power Co. at the age of 55
after 35 years. He was a former member of The Exchange Club, former President of
the North Shelby Optimist Club. He was former President of the American Heart
Association and served on the National Board for The American Heart Association.
He served on the International Association Impact Assessment on Environmental
Concern. He had a passion for nature and loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Linda E. Jones and their beloved puppy, Abby. Son,
Reverend Christopher Jones, daughter-in-law, Joan Jones, granddaughters, Sarah
Dianne and Catherine of Trussville, his daughter Laurel Greene and son-in-law
Patrick Green and Grandson Phillip and granddaughter, Mary Margaret of
Spartanburg, S.C. Son, Richard Ellis and daughter-in-law, Shelly and three
granddaughters, Reynolds, Sarah Kyser and Isabella of Tuscaloosa. Daughter,
Sherri Ellis, grandson Austin Spraggins of Birmingham. Daughter, Angela Thornton
and son-in-law David Thornton, three granddaughters, Carlyle, Reilly and Mary
Ellis, of Birmingham. Brother, Bruce Jones and sister-in-law, Kathy Jones, three
nieces, Gaylon, Anne Harris and Sarah of Birmingham. Sister, Dr. Louise and
brother-in-law Cotton Clark of Jacksonville, Ala. A nephew, Jeff Clark of
Jacksonville, Ala. A brother, Randy Jones, deceased. Mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Dean and Jim Arenberg of Pensacola, Fla. Sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Nancy and Greg Williams of Pensacola, Fla.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006 at First
Presbyterian Church in downtown Tuscaloosa with Rev. Dr. Charles M. Durham
officiating. There will be a reception at the church following the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Foundation
Research Fund for Prostate Cancer and to The American Heart Foundation. Special
thanks to Dr. John McAtee at Baldwin Regional Medical Center, Dr. Jimmy Harvey
and their oncology nurses at Trinity. A special thank you to Alacare and social
worker Tara Parker for the outstanding care and outpouring of Christian medical
treatment.
