Gerald Homan (8-10-11)

Gerald Douglas Homan died Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the Athens Hospice House.

Born on August 27, 1942, in Birmingham, Ala., he and his wife have been residents of Jackson County for 12 years. He served in the 101st Airborne 1960-1964. He sat in a plane three days while President Kennedy negotiated the Bay of Pigs Incident. Gerald drove a cement truck for Ernst Enterprise before he retired.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Rebecca Sewell Homan, librarian for Gainesville State College; three sons, Bryan, Daniel and Gerad; and granddaughter, Brianna, who is their joy.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 27, at Apple Valley Baptist Church fellowship hall between 4 to 6 p.m.
