BIRMINGHAM - Patricia M. Bell, age 63, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 22, 2006 following a courageous and hard fought two-year battle with cancer.

She was born September 23, 1942 in Tuscaloosa to the late Clark and Ozzie “Doe" Moses. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1960 and naturally went on to attend the University of Alabama. In 1964 she graduated and continued her side career during the football season as an armchair coach and weekend personal pet-traumatizer with her vocal calisthenics targeting every down.

Throughout her next 16 years, she worked as a teacher of various grade levels and went on to earn her graduate’s degree before, again, going back to school to find her true calling as a psychiatric nurse working for six years at Hillcrest and the last 18 years at Baptist Medical Center, Montclair.

True to her style, Pat spent her remaining days enjoying time with those she cared for the most (her pets, chocolate, coffee, and all things fried), gabbing with friends (and strangers) and listening to other people’s complaints about this or that, while, herself, complaining only of her lack of luck during her latest visit to the casinos.

Pat is survived by her son, David of Virginia Beach, Va., and sister, Fran (Harry) Herren of Albuquerque, N.M. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son John and husband Jerry.

Graveside services for Pat will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Tim Bailey, pastor, will officiate with Ridout’s Trussville Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name at the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, (800)ACS-2345.

Pat’s family would like to thank all of her friends for the many hours spent at her bedside throughout the last two months, her primary sitter, Cheryl, and the staff of New Beacon hospice for their help and support.
